Jen Beck, Student Intern
Creating a Safe Space for Healing, Growth, and Connection
- Supporting clients navigating difficult relationship patterns, trauma, grief, and life transitions
- Passionate about helping clients develop greater self-awareness, emotional resilience, and healthier coping skills
Areas of Focus:
Trauma and difficult life experiences, substance use and recovery, anxiety, depression, ocd, grief and loss, emotional regulation, self-esteem, relationship challenges, life transitions, and personal growth.
Experience and Background:
Jen Beck is a Master of Social Work student completing her clinical internship at Summit Counseling & Psychological Services. Her clinical experience includes working with adults in substance use disorder treatment, including individuals experiencing co-occurring mental health concerns, trauma histories, relationship difficulties, and other significant life challenges.
Jen has experience facilitating therapeutic groups and supporting clients as they explore triggers, boundaries, emotional regulation, coping skills, relapse prevention, difficulty setting appropriate boundaries, self-forgiveness, and personal growth. Her experiences have strengthened her interest in helping people understand the connection between their past experiences, emotions, relationships, and current patterns while developing healthier ways of moving forward.
Therapeutic Approach:
Jen approaches therapy from a compassionate, trauma-informed, person-centered perspective. She believes that people are more likely to create meaningful change when they feel safe enough to be honest about what they are experiencing without fear of judgment.
Her developing clinical approach incorporates evidence-based principles and skills from:
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
- Motivational Interviewing (MI)
- Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills
- Mindfulness and grounding techniques
- Trauma-informed care
- Strengths-based and person-centered approaches
Personal philosophy:
Jen values collaboration and believes therapy should be tailored to each person’s individual experiences, strengths, needs, and goals. Rather than telling clients how they should feel or what they should do, she strives to help them better understand themselves, recognize patterns, build practical skills, and identify changes that feel meaningful and sustainable in their lives.
Personal Background:
Jen values authentic connection and meaningful conversations and brings those values into her work with clients. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, going on motorcycle rides, and watching UFC fights.
Jen believes that some of the most meaningful healing happens through genuine human connection. Her goal is to create an environment where clients feel comfortable being themselves, talking openly about difficult experiences, and exploring emotions that may have been hard to understand or express.
She views her role not as “fixing” people, but as walking alongside them as they develop greater insight, self-compassion, emotional awareness, and confidence in their ability to navigate life’s challenges.
Quote:
“You don’t have to have everything figured out before you begin. Sometimes healing starts with having a safe place to be honest about where you are.”
